5 Little Pumpkins

While shopping at my favorite local farm yesterday afternoon I purchased one large pumpkin and explained to my kids that we were going to cut it open and explore the guts inside at daycare. So the owner ask me how many kids I watched and then kindly donated 5 pumpkins to my daycare kids for us to explore.

First we took a look at the outside and guess what would be on the inside.

PUMPKIN GUTS!!! was what we found.

Then we decided to extract the seeds.

This became a sensory bin, fine motor activity, science lesson.

                                                                    and a taste testing

what a perfect fall morning.

Thank you Oakridge Acres for the pumpkins we had so much fun.

Mr Snail

We found a friend and made him a home.  I'm not going to pretend that I knew how to make a habitat for a snail..... I googled it! (blushing) sometimes this job finds you doing the funniest things.
I found another mom who had thankfully been in the same spot and made her own snail home and posted about it. Here is her link giving details about making a snail habitat.

Thanks to her helpful post we found out that Mr Snail likes to have fresh water, and leaves, and mulch, small rocks, large rocks and shade.
We did everything she suggested and our new little friend is very happy. The kids were very happy as well. This was a project they could all help with.

And the Bird say Thanks

Over thanks giving we read the book Bear Says Thanks and the kids decided they would like to make some treats for our outdoor friends.

Since I was already making cranberries for Thanksgiving and we are all about learning to sew right now we decided on stringing berries for the birds.

They each had there own way of getting the berrie's on the needle.

Some stacked three at a time.
Or found it easier to stab them while still in the bowl
while others focused on finding the center and pushing it through.
Holding it in tight to yourself sometimes helps keep control.
It was quite work that everyone enjoyed. They helped each other when needed and talked about how excited the birds were going to be.
We found a spot for one a daycare and rest went home to be shared around town.
 And the bird says thanks

Gak Time

We are in love with, head over heels, totally addicted to, and completely absorbed by slim!!
Have your pinned it? Have you actually made it? Did you know that it is Awesome?
Did you know that it takes seconds to make? Did you know you can keep it for a few days?
Making it is actually a science experiment all on it's own.
We have been using it for a few months now and each time we make it we make more and more because we keep finding new ways to use it. Cutting it is oh so fun.
Trying to scoop it has become a new challenge.
Seeing how far we can stretch it is silly.

Trying to press it is tricky!!

Overall it's just FUN! Again and Again and Again

We use Steve Spanglers Gak Recipe

Today is your day

When I was in high school and it came the time to pick what you wanted to be in life, I remember sitting in the guidance counselors office smiling saying politely that I just wanted to be a Mom. My counselor was a women, she laughed pulled out a book of collage courses and said "general business is probably best for you dear" Well I didn't do that, I did what my heart wanted and even though becoming a mom was a challenge for me, when it happened it was the BIGGEST blessing! and so my full time job began. Who knew it would lead to this.

I have this little man to thank.

As much as I can't believe it four years have already passed and he is starting school this week. Part of me can belive it, we have done so much together in this time. I have been so lucky to spend so many days with my boys. I never missed a moment and I am so thankful for that.
I love all the memories I made with my Maximus and I am so excited to see what kind of memories he will make at school. Even though I am not ready I know he is.

So as your Mom and your guidance counslor I say in the words of the great Dr Seuss

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...
You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!"

I love you Buddy

Let them lead

Kids: Can we get out the Tunnel today. Me: Ok lets see what you can come up with.

Kids: The little kids are moving the tunnel all over so can we please put the table on top of the tunnel because it's still high enough for us to crawl through. Me:YES

Kids: If we pushed the toy shelves together we could make stairs and make a obstacle course? Me: Sure, show me.

Kids: We need the nap time mat's in between the tunnel and stairs so we don't crawl out on bonk our heads. Me: Good thinking.

My Kid: Mom I could jump from here Me: NOPE!

Kids:We could turn the space were the toys were into house for each of us and write our addresses down. Me: Go for it.
Kids: We added blankets and pillows so we can rest because we are exhausted after so much work.... we mean fun!
Me: Good work..... I mean fun!

Tumble Time

Someone calls out a action, and down the line you go.
This has become our new indoor maddness
At first it was just out of control, but now they are aware of each other and taking turns,
 They are creative and free
They are playful just the way kids should be. So fun you should try it. I won't tell.
